Huang Wei, male, professor, PhD supervisor, expert of transportation engineering, born on April 13, 1961 in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of Nanjing Institute of Technology (currently School of Civil Engineering of Southeast University) in 1982 with the Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and Doctor of Engineering in succession. He once served as Dean of the School of Transportation, Managing Vice President of Southeast University, Director of the Department of Construction of Jiangsu Province and Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, and is now serving as Director of Ministry of Education Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Institute at Southeast University, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of P. R. C. and Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Construction. In 2007, he was elected as academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Academician Huang Wei, as one of the major pioneers in respect of the technology of steel bridges deck surfacing and intelligent transportation systems for long-span bridges in China, has been long engaged in scientific research and teaching of the theories and methods for the surfacing design of highways and deck of long-span bridges, engineering construction management and intelligent transportation system, etc.. He once took charge of the key research projects on bridge deck surfacing of such national major projects as the 2nd Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, the 3rd Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Sutong (Suzhou-Nantong) Yangtze River Bridge and Wuhan Yangluo Yangtze River Bridge, etc.. Asthe inventor of the new material: multi-component epoxy asphalt, he has organized and led the design and engineering implementation of deck surfacing of nearly 20 large-span steel bridges in China. His scientific research achievements have been widely applied to the projects.
Academician Huang Wei has achieved seven patents as the first inventor including five invention patents, won six first prizes for science and technology progress at national, ministerial and provincial level, published over 130 papers which have been cited by others positively for over 500 times and published seven monographs as the first author. Among others, the Research on Theory and Method of Long-Span Steel Bridges Deck Surfacing Design was appraised as one of the national “Top 100 Original Work”. In 1999, he was titled as “National Youth and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions”; in the same year, he was also elected as specially-appointed professor of “National Chang Jiang Scholars Program”.
