PORTFOLIO
Laura Rich is set to become the Web site assistant managing editor for Conde Nast Portfolio, a business magazine slated for launch in April 2007. Rich, whose appointment is effective Dec. 1, joins the title from Inc. and Fast Company, where she was the Web site editorial director. Portfolio is helmed by editor in chief Joanne Lipman and will offer in-depth examinations of the trends and people shaping the modern business environment.

SMARTMONEY
Bob Rose recently announced that he will step down as the assistant managing editor for business at the Philadelphia Inquirer at the end of the month to become the executive editor at SmartMoney magazine. He has been with the Inquirer since May 2004 and wrote for The Wall Street Journal as a reporter and columnist for 19 years prior to that. SmartMoney was established in 1992 and is written for professionals in need of personal finance guidance and information.

MONEY MAGAZINE
Jennifer Merritt, 212-522-5095, is the new special projects editor at Money magazine. She most recently served as the business editor of the The Florida Times-Union. She replaces Tara Kalwarski, 212-210-0484, who is now the data editor at FinancialWeek. Merritt also previously served as a business writer at The Boston Globe, the Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune, the Boston Business Journal and as a metro reporter at The Palm Beach Post in West Palm Beach, Fla. She has also written for BusinessWeek.

HARTFORD COURANT
The Hartford Courant has promoted Dan Haar, 860-241-6536, to business editor. He succeeds George P. Gombossy, who exited from the post earlier this month to write an investigative column for the newspaper. Haar previously served as the assistant business editor. He joined the paper in 1981 as a photographer. The Hartford Courant is a daily, general-interest broadsheet newspaper written for the general public in the Hartford, CT area.

MIAMI HERALD
The Business Monday section of the Miami Herald has added a new column written by Gregg Fields. Money Talks covers various aspects of business culture, from etiquette to corporate spending. The addition of the column is one of several additions and changes being made to Business Monday by new editor Nancy Dahlberg, 305-376-3599. Fields was a senior business writer for the Miami Herald before leaving the paper in August 2006 to direct the business journalism master¡¯s degree program at Florida International University. He initially joined the paper in 1987, and covered banking and economics during his time as a business writer.

JIM CRAMER¡¯S REAL MONEY
Jim Cramer has announced that he will no longer broadcast his syndicated radio show, Jim Cramer¡¯s Real Money, as of Dec. 1. Cramer, one of the co-founders of TheStreet.com, will instead shift his focus to creating multimedia programming for the Web site. Cramer also serves as the host of the financial show Mad Money with Jim Cramer, which airs on cable channel CNBC. Jim Cramer¡¯s Real Money was broadcast by CBS Radio and featured market news, analysis and investing advice.

Investigative journalist Gary Weiss has started writing the Muckraker column for Forbes.com. The column, which debuted Oct. 17, covers international business and Wall Street. Weiss was a senior writer for BusinessWeek from 1986 to July 2004. He has also worked for Barron¡¯s, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant and news services in Washington. He is the author of Wall Street Versus America and Born to Steal, which uncovered Wall Street¡¯s connection to the Mafia.

FORTUNE
Katie Benner, 212-522-2026, recently announced that she left TheStreet.com to become a personal finance reporter at Fortune magazine. She has also written for CNNMoney.com and spent four years in Beijing writing for the South China Morning Post, Beijing Review, The Economist Group and Xinhau Financial Network. Brian Womack, 619-448-6325, recently joined Investor¡¯s Business Daily in Los Angeles as its New America Reporter focusing on up-and-coming businesses. Womack was previously a business reporter and technology columnist for the Orange County Business Journal. Investor¡¯s Business Daily is a national daily business newspaper aimed at senior executives, professionals and entrepreneurs, as well as individual and professional investors. The newspaper provides new management and investment ideas and stock data such as industry group rankings, relative strength, earnings per share ranking, volume percentage change and accumulation distribution.

WALL STREET JOUNRAL RADIO
Ray Hoffman will be the new afternoon drive business news anchor for Wall Street Journal Radio beginning Nov. 1. He previously served as the host of the BusinessWeek Business Report radio show. No replacement has been named. He also worked as an assignment editor for BusinessWeek magazine. Wall Street Journal Radio provides hourly business and financial news reports transmitted live via satellite 24 hours daily from the newspaper¡¯s newsroom.

Prior to her tenure at Fortune, Morris spent 14 years with The Wall Street Journal as a writer and a bureau chief.  She will continue to be based in Atlanta when she joins Portfolio.
